Council receives public safety and HR staffing updates; SRO MOU expected May 5

The Woodland City Council received updates April 21 on public-safety hiring and human-resources recruiting.
Chief Gibbs and council members reported that an officer graduates and will begin field training, an entry-level candidate is slated to start June 1 with the academy running from July through November, and Officer Eanes is expected to assume a detective role in May. Two additional hires remain after the June 1 start date to fill a school resource officer (SRO) position and a second detective post. The council noted the city has received its first ordered patrol vehicle and expects two more currently located in Portland to arrive soon.
Council members said a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the SRO position is scheduled for the May 5 council agenda. The public-safety and public-works departments planned coordination for July 4 enforcement and park closures to reduce disorder and illegal fireworks use; the mayor said the park will be closed at dusk on future July 4 observances and additional officers will be assigned.
Human Resources reported it has reposted the city treasurer position with a salary range between $95,000 and $120,000 and will post three summer parks positions paying $20 per hour for 40 hours per week; applicants must be 18 or older with a valid driver’s license.
Why it matters: staffing updates affect policing capacity, the planned SRO role in schools and city operations in parks during busy summer periods. The SRO MOU on the May 5 agenda could formalize school-police duties.
