A resident speaking during the meeting's public comment period described serving as a prescribed fire crew member through a fellowship connected with Climate Action Corps and urged others to join.
"The work that I've gotten to do has been directly with our land, that this is really meaningful work. It's the opportunity to have a direct impact on our trees and our plants and our animals in our ecosystem," the resident said, describing the hands-on nature of prescribed-fire work and the fellowship's professional development opportunities.
The commenter said they took firefighting and land stewardship on as a second career after an earlier career as a videographer. "I took this as a second career. My first career was in a whole other field as a videographer. I never imagined that I would become a prescribed fire crew member through the professional development opportunities of this fellowship," they said.
The resident also noted their education and invited others to participate: "I have 7 years of higher education. And in all of that, it through Climate Action Corps. So I'm very grateful, and I look forward through Climate Action Corps. So I'm very grateful and I look forward to you joining us. Come and serve with us." They concluded, "You can have an impact."
The comment did not include details about which agency or land management unit the crew works with, training dates, or contact information for the fellowship. No motion or formal action accompanied the remarks; the statement was part of the meeting's public comment record.
