County approves DLZ traffic-study agreement and cost-share with developer for North Park area; study to assess impacts of justice center and planned development

Monroe County commissioners approved a traffic engineering agreement on April 17 with DLZ and a corresponding cost-share arrangement with Logan Land Development to evaluate traffic impacts on State Road 46 between I-69 and West Arlington Road.
County staff said the study will assess anticipated traffic from several planned developments in the North Park planned-unit development area, including the county’s planned justice center and potential private residential and commercial projects. The study includes consideration of an extension of West Hunter Valley Road east of State Road 46 to West Arlington Road and will evaluate future intersection performance and design needs.
County engineer staff and consultant representatives told the board the cost-share contract splits the study costs between the county and the landowner; Logan Land Development agreed to pay half the study cost. Commissioners emphasized the study’s role in anticipating infrastructure needs and preventing future traffic backup at intersections.
A resident caller asked whether the study would consider pedestrian traffic; county staff responded that the study focuses on vehicular traffic but noted sidewalks and a sidepath are planned as part of the Hunter Valley Road connection to provide for pedestrian safety.
The motion to approve both the DLZ agreement and the cost-share contract passed 3-0 on roll call.
