LaSalle County Law and Justice Committee reviews probation and clerk reports, schedules opioid-prevention presentations and approves routine bills

The LaSalle County Law and Justice Committee met at 9 a.m. and received monthly reports from probation, the circuit clerk and the county detention home, approved departmental reports and authorized payment of several sets of bills. The committee also heard that the State’s Attorney is using county opioid funds to bring speaker Chris Herron to regional schools on May 7–8.
Committee members were told the juvenile probation office had 15 referrals in March, with “3 90 public service hours ordered, 115 completed and 5 cases were completed successful,” and 114 active LaSalle County juvenile cases plus 11 administrative cases. For adult probation, $15,000 in probation fees were ordered for the month, with orders to date of $43,200 and $5,213.35 collected during March; collected to date was reported as $22,829.18. Two juveniles were reported as being at the Ocus House in Ogle County for court-ordered treatment; no release dates were provided.
The circuit clerk reported payments to the county of $267,218, $88,000 paid out to agencies, collections of $33,496 and total income listed later as $72,239.94. The clerk said cases filed numbered 1,285, with 11,47 cases closed and 9,810 open cases (as reported). The clerk noted two job openings in the circuit clerk’s office, a completed outside audit sent to the state, a ratified union contract taking effect next week, and a $171,980 technology grant where equipment has been ordered and delivered.
State’s Attorney staff told the committee the county’s “fund 73” opioid funds are sponsoring presentations by Chris Herron, a former NBA player who will speak to about 19 schools from junior high through high school on May 7 and 8 at Illinois Valley Community College (IVCC). There is no fee for participating schools; transportation was the only expected cost. The presenter said flyers would be left for the board and staff.
The county detention home submitted financials showing bills of $12,485.23, prepaid $391 and total bills of $12,876.23. The facility reported an average daily population for the month of 3 and a population of 5 on the day of the meeting. Income line items reported included Securus phone income $2.55, state/federal food subsidy $803.98, state salary reimbursement $63,865.91, interest income $7,567.50 and total income $72,239.94. The detention home said new AOIC (Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts) standards require staff to pass through a metal detector before coming to work; the director said purchasing a metal detector is in this year’s budget.
Committee business included routine approvals. The committee voted to approve the prior meeting’s minutes, accept the probation and circuit clerk reports, accept public defender reports for February and March, approve detention home bills and authorize payment of bills for the State’s Attorney, public defender, circuit clerk and judiciary/probation. Each motion passed on voice vote “Aye;” no recorded no votes were announced during the meeting.
After the votes the committee adjourned.
