Council approves consent items, three budgetary ordinances and multiple routine reports

The Franklin City Council approved routine consent and budget items during its April 21 meeting.
The council unanimously approved minutes from the April 7 meeting and passed three budgetary ordinances that were introduced previously: Budgetary Ordinance 25-04, appropriating $28,074.21 of opioid unrestricted funds to pay for updates to law enforcement policy manuals (Lexipol); Budgetary Ordinance 25-05, amending Salary Ordinance 24-22 to reflect restructuring and the planning director position; and Budgetary Ordinance 25-06, appropriating $2,872.56 from Drug Free Johnson County funds to purchase narcotics surveillance equipment. Chief Kirby Cochran described the drug roundup work his narcotics unit performed and said Franklin officers handled a substantial share of warrants in a recent operation.
All three ordinances were opened for public hearing as required; no members of the public spoke on these items and the council voted to approve each appropriation.
The council also approved a motion to read new business by title only, accepted annual tax-abatement compliance reports for a list of companies that staff found in substantial compliance, and received the redevelopment commission’s annual submission to the Department of Local Government Finance.
