Council approves appointments, contracts and licenses in unanimous votes

Lincoln City Council met Monday, April 21, 2025, and approved a slate of consent and business items, including an appointment to a state commission, engineering contract supplements, multiple liquor and special-event licenses and a citywide dead-animal removal contract. All motions recorded during the meeting passed unanimously, 7-0.

The approvals included the appointment of David Landis to the Nebraska Capital Environs Commission for a partial term ending Jan. 9, 2027; a professional services agreement supplement with Alfred Company for preliminary engineering on A Street from Sixth to Seventeenth Street; the setting of a Board of Equalization hearing date of May 12, 2025, at 3 p.m. for several Maintenance Improvement Districts; and corrected distributions of interest earnings for idle funds for the period ending Feb. 28, 2025. The council approved the hotel’s Class C liquor license and manager application, along with special-designated licenses for Pinnacle Bank Arena and an event application for Hub Cafe, by a 7-0 vote.

On public hearing resolutions, the council approved a four-year contract — with renewal options — between the city and Industrial Services Inc. for dead-animal removal. City Attorney Johanze Christie described the contract as one "utilized by multiple departments, not just the health department." During discussion staff said the contract is estimated at $30 (billed per animal removed) with a not-to-exceed figure discussed at $40,000 for budgeting; the City Clerk was to maintain final contract figures.
