Pulaski County commissioners approve contingency homestead-audit with True Roll Systems

The Pulaski County commissioners authorized a contingency homestead-audit with True Roll Systems to search county property-tax records for duplicate homestead exemptions.

Commissioner Teresa Bryant described the company’s service: a preliminary nationwide search can be done at no cost, and a full contingency audit would require no upfront county payment but would pay True Roll 30% of any recovered taxes if duplicates are found. Bryant said some counties she contacted had positive experiences with the vendor.

"If they find nothing, we don't owe anything," Bryant told the commissioners. The board moved and seconded a motion to permit Bryant to proceed with the contingency audit; the motion passed by voice vote.

Bryant said the alternative to contingency is an annual fee service — she cited a figure of about $23,000 per year described as "salty" in the meeting — and recommended the contingency option to avoid upfront costs during current budget constraints.
