La Porte’s Common Council approved a resolution on April 21 that authorizes transfers between line items in the 2025 budgets to cover department needs and account for credits from an LED lighting project.
Councilman Galloway introduced the transfers, which included moving $22,050 from utilities to other services in the Board of Works budget and a smaller communications-to-other-services transfer of $57 in an office account, among other line-item adjustments. City staff explained that budgets are estimates and departments commonly shift funds during the year to cover actual costs such as liability insurance deductibles, utilities and other operating needs.
Galloway said credits received from NIPSCO for a city LED lighting project produced an available utility appropriation that could be redirected to cover other services. The council moved, seconded and voted “Aye”; no opposition was recorded and the resolution passed.
