A representative for Culver Newland told a San Bernardino County Office of Education meeting that the company has worked with local teachers since 1963 to provide flexible, safety-minded furniture for general and special education classrooms and to support teacher recognition and classroom makeovers.
The representative said Culver Newland “collaborate[s] and work[s] with our teachers” to create adaptable environments and highlighted partnerships with teachers in the San Bernardino City Unified School District. "Those two women specifically were really the driving force behind the Sharp Bridal Awards," the representative said, describing a program to identify and honor innovative local teachers and provide classroom makeovers as a thank-you.
The speaker emphasized the vendor’s focus on special education needs. "At county schools, our population is, you know, a lot of special needs, mod severe population, and so the flexibility that we have with the furniture in Culver Newland can really support those special needs in all areas," the representative said. The vendor described adding soft seating, mobile and modular pieces, and specially designed foam desks developed with a partner, Foamcore, that are intended to be writable but safer if tossed.
"For a long time, special needs classrooms went really underserved," the representative said. "So designing first with safety in mind, we have a partner called Foamcore who's one of our best partners and they have designed a line specifically for special needs students. So their desks made completely out of foam so there can still be written on but if they get tossed it's gonna be okay." The representative added that Culver Newland aims to make classroom spaces "comfortable, safe, clean" to help special education environments thrive.
The remarks combined descriptions of product features and outreach work; no formal actions, votes, or funding decisions were recorded in the transcript excerpt. The transcript did not specify contract amounts, procurement processes, or which districts (beyond references to San Bernardino City Unified School District and county schools) had purchased specific products.
