The Village of Mineola Board of Trustees approved multiple organizational and operational items during its organization agenda and work session.
Appointments and organization: The board confirmed the mayor’s slate of village appointments, including village clerk Bridal Rivera, village attorney John P. Gibbons Jr., and a range of volunteer board members for the library, pool, planning and zoning boards. The board also approved the appointment of Trustee Janine Sartori as deputy mayor and adopted the annual public meeting calendar.
Administrative and financial resolutions: Trustees authorized the village clerk to collect taxes under Village Law Section 82 and approved a related Section 126A resolution for unpaid and uncollected taxes for 2025–26. The board designated authorized banks as depositories, named the Long Island Press as the official village newspaper and authorized the mayor’s signature (with the treasurer or deputy treasurer) on village checks; in the mayor’s absence the deputy mayor was authorized to sign. The board also authorized an employee-theft blanket limit of $700,000 per loss.
Facility and program funding: The board approved $875,000 from the 2025–26 water fund reserve for PFAS treatment and future 1,4-dioxin treatment at Well Number 6; trustees voted to continue existing bonding from a 2023 bond ordinance and to supplement it with the fund appropriation.
Facade improvement program: The board renewed the village’s commercial facade improvement program, authorized the community development coordinator (Tom Savino) to issue RFPs for signmakers, electricians and awning companies, and instructed staff to solicit a proposal for continued consulting services from urban design professional Jonathan Martin. Trustee Clark abstained from the vote because of a relationship with an organization that passes funds through to the village; all other trustees voted in favor.
Personnel and routine items: Trustees approved payroll and bills, and authorized the provisional hiring of Sandy Fernandez as an administrative assistant in the Water and Sewer Division at an annual salary of $55,000.
Motion details and outcomes: Motions for each item were moved and seconded by trustees on the record; the transcript records “All in favor? Aye. Any opposed? Motion carries” for routine items while the facade program renewal was recorded with Trustee Clark abstaining.
Why it matters: These organizational and operational votes set the village’s administrative leadership, vendor-authority and funding priorities for the coming year, including a significant water-treatment appropriation to address PFAS concerns and a continued push to improve storefront facades in commercial corridors.
