Commissioners approve amended survey-recordation fees and repeal septic-location requirement from survey rules

Decatur County commissioners approved amendments to the county’s survey-recordation requirements and updated fees after the area planning office and auditor recommended clearer language and adjusted review fees.
Staff said the change clarifies what must be included on recorded surveys, addressing inconsistencies caused when out-of-county surveyors use different standards. The board approved raising the area-plan office’s review fee to $60 per survey plus $10 per additional lot (previously $40) and the auditor’s review fee to $40 per survey plus $10 per lot (previously $20). The changes were described as already reviewed by the Area Planning Commission.
Commissioners also approved repealing two survey sections (listed in the packet as section 9-43(b)3(b) and 3(c)) that had required septic-system locations to be drawn on surveys. Staff and the county surveyor said septic location determination is a board-of-health function and can change during site work; they recommended removing the survey requirement so septic placement is handled by the health department at permitting/installation time.
A motion to accept the amended survey recordation language and fee adjustments carried on the board’s second reading. Staff said the amendments will go forward to the Area Planning Commission for final administrative handling and that paper copies are available in the office.
