At its April 21, 2025 extraordinary meeting the Spalding County Board of Commissioners took a series of routine votes and first readings on policy items. Below are the actions the board recorded during open session.
• Minutes: The board approved minutes for the April 7 workshop and regular meeting. Vote: 5-0.
• Financial statement acceptance: The board accepted the financial statement ending March 31, 2025. Vote: 5-0. (See separate article.)
• Out-of-state motor coach: The board approved a three-day, two-night senior-center motor coach trip to Chattanooga, Tennessee; all fees to be paid by participants. Vote: 5-0.
• Pickleball production courts: Commissioners gave staff a consensus direction to explore resources and possible partners to fund two television-production courts at the county pickleball complex; staff will return with cost estimates and options within about 30–45 days. (No formal funding motion at this meeting.)
• Airport construction contract revision: The board approved a revised contract for airport construction/utility relocation involving the City of Griffin and Griffin-Spalding Airport Authority; the project is part of a larger $9,246,139 phase (no sponsor contribution in this funding round). Vote: 5-0.
• Alcohol server permit ordinance: The board approved first reading of a county alcohol server permit ordinance that creates a county application and renewal process; the motion passed on first reading. Vote: 5-0 (first reading).
• Zoning ordinance and official map: The board approved on second reading a resolution to amend the zoning ordinance and adopt the official zoning map. Vote: 5-0 (second reading / adoption of ordinance language to accompany the map approval taken earlier).
• No-parking on county roads ordinance (first reading): The board conducted a first reading of an ordinance designating county roads no-parking zones with a process for residents to request exceptions. After discussion the measure passed first reading with four votes in favor and one opposed. Vote: 4-1 (first reading).
The board later moved into executive session on pending and potential litigation as allowed by state law and returned to adjourn. Several of the items above involved staff reports and prior committee or authority approvals; follow-up motions or budget approvals may appear on future agendas.
