The Effingham County Tax & Finance Committee voted in open session, following a closed-session real estate discussion, to allocate $300,000 from the capital improvement fund toward purchase of a county morgue and to forward that allocation to the full board for final consideration.
Committee members moved the funding allocation out of existing capital replacement funds. A motion to allocate $300,000 for a morgue purchase was made by Tim Ellis; a committee member seconded the motion. Committee discussion noted the purchase will require additional operating expenses but also that opportunities exist to address those future costs. The committee approved the allocation and later completed a roll-call vote in open session showing unanimous recorded support among members present.
The allocation was recorded as an action to be presented to the full board; the committee emphasized that final procurement and any associated operating-cost decisions will require further review and formal action by the full board.
