The Burke County Planning Commission approved a preliminary plan for the Rankin Fitness Center, a proposed 12,076-square-foot fitness facility on 1.29 acres in the Falling Waters District (file 2409-276).
County staff reported that on April 3, 2025, County Engineer Doug Smith found the project compliant with the subdivision ordinance and that the preliminary plan meets ordinance requirements; staff recommended approval. The site is on the west side of TJ Jackson Drive between Akron Drive and Saffron Terrace and will be served by public water and sewer. No waivers or exceptions were requested.
Clint Rock of Fox and Associates represented the project at the meeting. A commissioner asked whether Allen Henry owned the property; staff replied that Henry had purchased the parcel. The commission voted to accept staff recommendations and approve the preliminary plan by voice vote.
The transcript records the action as a carried motion; no detailed roll-call tally appears in the meeting record.
