Peoria election officials certify consolidated election; turnout 22.43%

Elizabeth Gannon, representing the Peoria County election commission, told the board the consolidated election was certified last Wednesday and that turnout rose compared with the last similar cycle.
"We just certified the consolidated election last Wednesday," Gannon said. "We ended up at a 22.43 turnout, which is actually 5 points higher than we saw in 2021, which was the last similar cycle." She said 44% of voters cast ballots on election day, 15.58% voted early and 40.42% voted by mail. The office sent out more than 20,000 vote-by-mail ballots and received just over 11,000 back.
Gannon and board members noted continued growth in permanent vote-by-mail participation. No board action followed the certification report, which the election office described as finalizing its post-election paperwork.
