Belton Independent School District trustees voted unanimously Monday, April 14, 2025, to terminate the employment of two district employees following a closed-session consultation on legal and personnel matters.
The board, meeting in special session, voted 7–0 to terminate the term contract of contract employee Logan Dimity effective immediately, and to end the probationary contract of another employee at the end of the contract term. Both actions followed the board’s closed-session consultation under the Texas Government Code and were announced when the board reconvened in open session.
Why it matters: The board said both matters involved personnel and legal issues that prompted immediate administrative steps, including directives barring the employees from district property, criminal trespass warnings and reports to state authorities. Trustees and administration said the steps relate to student and campus safety.
During the open session announcement, a trustee moved to terminate Logan Dimity’s term contract for the 2024–25 school year, saying the board had earlier proposed termination and that written notice had been provided. The record shown in open session states the board proposed termination on March 24, 2025, and the employee received written notice proposing termination and suspension without pay on March 26, 2025. The notice informed the employee of the right to request a hearing before an independent hearing examiner within 15 days; the board said Dimity did not make a timely request for a hearing. The motion was seconded and the board voted 7–0 to approve the termination.
District staff explained that when an employee is placed on leave the district issues a directive not to be on any school property and that criminal trespass warnings are issued. "When an individual is placed on leave, they also receive a directive not to be on any school property," a district staff member said. The board said the district reported the matter to the State Board of Education and to Child Protective Services.
On a separate personnel motion, trustees voted 7–0 to terminate the probationary contract of the second employee at the end of the contract term. The board’s open-session remarks say the board determined the district’s best interests are served by the termination and directed the superintendent to provide written notice to the employee; the board said this action superseded an earlier board action dated March 24, 2025. The motion was seconded by Trustee Lee and approved 7–0. District staff said the same access restrictions, trespass warnings and reports to state agencies apply in this case as well.
Board members and the superintendent thanked staff for how the matters were handled. "We appreciate how you handled the situation," the board president said on behalf of the board.
The board had convened in closed session citing the Texas Government Code, Sections 551.071 (consultation with attorney) and 551.074 (personnel matters). The meeting notice was posted in accordance with the Texas Open Meetings Act. The special meeting adjourned at 4:23 p.m.
Votes at a glance: - Termination of contract employee Logan Dimity (term contract for 2024–25; effective immediately): Approved, 7–0. - Termination of probationary employee (name appears in the meeting record with variant spellings; action to end employment at term): Approved, 7–0.
