Weber County attorneys, investigators praised for role in Riverdale homicide response

Commissioner Sharon Bolos and Riverdale Police Department Chief Casey Warren on April 15 praised staff from the Weber County Attorney’s Office for their assistance in a recent Riverdale City homicide investigation.

Chief Casey Warren told the commission the case was a domestic-violence related homicide in which “the individual murdered his wife, started a fire, and then fled the scene.” He said children were involved and that officers were able to arrest the suspect and “also get the kids home safely.”

The chief credited Weber County investigators Steve Haney, Steve Sicardi and Cameron Hartman and attorneys Nick Kane and Derek Malan for helping “from the very beginning to ensure that we have a solid case,” and he singled out victim advocate Jamie Pitt for assisting the family. “I can't tell you how awesome and amazing those people are,” Warren said.

Warren said the investigative work will continue as the case moves toward court. “The investigation part was great having them there, but the work has just begun as this case moves towards court,” he said.

Commissioner Sharon Bolos said it was important for the commission to hear praise for county employees who work with municipal partners. “There’s a lot of great employees that we have here at the county who are doing great things with our partners, and it's so nice to be recognized,” Bolos said.
