Ashwaubenon board authorizes purchase of floating beach wheelchair for Ashwaubomay Lake

The Ashwaubenon Village Board on April 15 authorized the purchase of a MobiChair floating beach wheelchair for use at Ashwaubomay Lake.
Mel, a village staff member presenting the item, said the chair would allow guests to move across the beach and enter the water and would complement an existing MobiMat purchased in 2020. Mel said leftover grant funds from Options for Independent Living would cover part of the cost and that the Ashwaubenon Lions Club agreed to pay the remaining balance. “We do have such great giving groups in the Village of Ashwaubenon,” Mel said.
The board moved and seconded the purchase authorization; a voice vote passed with the motion carried. No dollar amount was stated in the meeting packet discussion.
Why it matters: The item expands physical access at a public lake facility and relies in part on outside philanthropic support. The village’s prior purchase of a MobiMat (2020) was cited as precedent.
The motion authorized staff to proceed with the purchase so the chair would be available for the upcoming summer season.
