Select Board appoints PJ Panagotti Samajhi as probationary Southborough police officer

The Town of Southborough Select Board voted unanimously to appoint Panagotti “PJ” Samajhi as a probationary police officer effective immediately.
Samajhi introduced himself to the board and said he was born in Albania, moved to Worcester at about age 3 and later worked in Holden for roughly two years as a police officer and two years as a dispatcher. “Southborough posted an opening and I was interested,” Samajhi said. “I’ve always wanted to be a police officer.”
The appointment motion was made and seconded during the Select Board’s virtual meeting and carried on a 4-0 roll-call vote: Marguerite — aye; Sam — aye; Andrew — aye; Cook — aye. After the vote, Town Clerk Tim Hegarty administered the oath of office; Samajhi answered, “Yes, sir, I do.”
Board members welcomed Samajhi and said they were pleased he could begin work immediately; one member noted Samajhi holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Anna Maria College and that he would start field training the same day. The board also noted the appointment was done virtually because of earlier website issues that had prevented an in-person meeting.
No additional conditions or restrictions on the appointment were recorded during the meeting.
The board’s personnel action was one of several formal votes taken during the session; the meeting also included the appointment of an interim building commissioner, authorization for a town staff member to sign a permit for railroad crossing repairs, approval of a two-item consent agenda and an adjournment vote.
