District staff gave trustees a progress report on consolidation work for several small campuses that the board approved earlier in the year, including placement of staff, family outreach, and facility preparations at receiving campuses.
Miss Chancellor (district administrator) told the board that, since the board’s March meeting, district leaders had walked receiving campuses, finalized many placements and communicated with affected employees. Human Resources had placed about 106 employees so far and recorded six resignations; about 86 employees remained to be placed, officials said. HR planned further in-person placement meetings and said some staff requested time to review options before accepting assignments.
Special education staff reported ongoing outreach to families, including virtual meetings and in-person open houses; 12 families had scheduled virtual meetings and multiple parent meetings had taken place at impacted campuses. Pupil personnel staff said they were allowing families multiple school-choice preferences for displaced students and had been answering inquiries about sibling placement.
Facilities staff summarized planned work at Clear Spring Elementary, the primary receiving site for one consolidation. They reported some plumbing and restroom work and noted that many needed upgrades will be done over summer to limit disruption. Several minor overnight projects were already under way to improve safety and accessibility before the next school year.
Why it matters: Consolidation affects staffing, class assignments and school capacity. Trustees asked for ongoing transparency about student choices and staffing placements to avoid unintended shortfalls at receiving schools.
What’s next: HR will continue placing employees and report back to the board; facilities will provide estimates of costs and timelines for Clear Spring upgrades. Staff promised to provide the board with updated counts of student school-choice responses and staffing placements as those become available.
