The Ross Local School District recognized athletic and instructional achievements before its regular business. District Athletic Director Justin Beck introduced four Ross High School swimmers who competed at the Ohio state meet in Canton and who contributed to a team state runner-up finish. "I wanna thank everybody for allowing us to take a couple minutes tonight to recognize what I believe will go down as some of the most decorated athletes in Ross High School's history," Beck said. He noted the four students represented "6 state championships" across relays and individual events and described them as part of a growing program.
Coach Stewart, the head swim coach, thanked the athletes and parents and said the swimmers could have swum elsewhere but chose to stay at Ross and help build the program. The four athletes introduced themselves by name and grade: Luke Maneri (junior), Timmy Furman (sophomore), Cooper Burt (senior) and Connor Bennett (senior). The superintendent and board members congratulated the athletes and discussed placement of signage in the gym honoring the accomplishments.
The board also presented a series of teachers-of-excellence recognitions from across the district and named Holly Vining as Ross Local Teacher of the Year. Doctor Rice read nominations submitted by principals and described Vining's life-skills program, noting it includes sewing, cooking and financial-literacy instruction and that she brought students to the meeting. "Holly is a true champion of education," Rice read from the nomination. The board asked honorees to come forward for photos; there was no vote associated with the recognitions.
Ending: Board members offered congratulations to the athletes, teachers and retiring staff members noted in the superintendent's report and then continued with the meeting agenda.
