The Cache County School Board recognized five teachers and their principals at its April 17 meeting at the Legacy Campus boardroom.
The board opened with multiple recognition presentations that highlighted classroom innovation and statewide and national honors. The most prominent was a national award in agricultural teaching given to Brittany Ammitt of Mountainside Elementary; Principal Cam Ammitt accepted on her behalf and noted hands-on projects in the classroom, including bird-feeder cameras and tomatoes started on the International Space Station. Julie Clark, literacy and early learning coordinator at the Utah State Board of Education, presented the State Board's Science of Reading Teacher Award to Lindsay Black of Sunrise Elementary after district instructional coaches observed her classroom and scored her 100% on the State Board's rubric.
The board also acknowledged Jessica Monn of Green Canyon High School as Teacher of the Year for that campus; Jackie Bangerter, a sixth-grade teacher at North Park Elementary; and Avery Hatch, a resource teacher at Providence Elementary. Presenters praised the teachers for leadership, mentorship and student-focused practice. Principal Jim Crosby, Principal Julie Payne and Principal Jeff Keck each introduced their honorees and summarized colleagues' and students' comments about their classroom impact.
Board Chair Randall Bagley and other members thanked family and 'fan club' members in the audience for supporting the educators. There were no votes associated with the recognitions.
The recognitions preceded the business portion of the meeting, which included a school report, public comment and routine consent and action items.
