District administrators updated the board on the curriculum review cycle and professional learning efforts across subject areas, saying math will be the district’s next major curriculum review.
Administrators described ongoing English language arts implementation and library (LRC) redesign work, including new flexible furniture and coding/robotics tools for elementary LRCs. At the middle school, the newly introduced ComTech (communication technology) class—funded in part by a Bosch grant—was highlighted as providing modular experience in podcasting, video, graphic design and Cricut printing.
Dr. Vandenhauer told trustees the district will partner with Metro Chicago Math Initiative and district 214 center schools to align K–8 mathematics instruction and to focus professional learning on mathematical practices, problem solving and formative assessment. “We are going to be really focusing on that next year,” she said, and noted kindergarten through fifth grade work will align with middle‑school algebra emphasis.
Administrators also said world‑language instruction has shifted toward more immersive language use and cultural study, and that the district has consulted with Prospect High School to understand expectations for high‑school language courses.
The board asked about metrics and outcomes; administrators said they plan student self‑reflection on the district’s Portrait of a Graduate attributes and a parent survey about grading and feedback going out in May. No board votes were taken on curriculum items at this meeting.
