Lyon County commissioners approve park and technology spending, SRO MOU and grant applications; direct staff on GID

Lyon County commissioners met April 17 and voted on a series of funding, procurement and intergovernmental items, including a request from the city of Yerington for park construction tax funds, replacement of county phones, an amended school resource officer memorandum and several planning and grant actions.

Highlights and outcomes

- City park funding: The board approved $30,000 in park construction tax funds to the City of Yerington for improvements to tennis and pickleball courts on East Goldfield Avenue. The motion by Commissioner Jacobson, seconded by Commissioner Hockaday, passed 5‑0.

- County phone purchase: The board approved the purchase of new phones for a new phone system at a cost of $47,701 to be funded by a budget transfer from the general fund contingency; motion passed 5‑0.

- School resource officers: The board approved an amendment of understanding with the Lyon County School District to provide five deputy sheriffs assigned as school resource officers from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2027, with the district providing up to $460,000 on an annual basis for FY26 and FY27.
