Matthew Gillian, Project Manager, updated the Navasota City Council on multiple capital improvement projects, including Well 8 water quality sampling, a pending pump delivery, a steel water tank under construction, and progress at the wastewater treatment plant.
Gillian said the city received water-quality samples from two laboratories. All measures were within Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) parameters; iron was elevated but within normal limits and may decline after disinfection is introduced. The pump for Well 8 is still on order and staff expect the well work to be complete by mid-May, which will allow the contractor to begin steel-tank fabrication that is expected to continue through mid-August.
On the wastewater side, Gillian said crews replaced the torque tube on one rotor and that it is operating. The city is awaiting TCEQ approval of a permit renewal. Staff also reported procurement activity for a belt press: three bids were received, and the city expects work to begin next month to replace worn parts. Gillian said the plant work and tank timetable align with project bid openings and anticipated contract awards; the city expects to award a plant bid at the next council meeting.
Gillian noted a recently replaced fire hydrant at LaSalle and Spur 515 that had been leaking. Council members asked for a future update on additional well work (‘well 9’) and discussed timing for the plant bid award and construction. No formal council action was taken on these informational updates during the meeting.
