District recommends Lexia Core5 and HMH Waggle for early-intervention adoptions; public review period set

The district’s instructional materials process for state-adopted intervention materials concluded its committee review and produced superintendent recommendations on April 17.
Reagan Hughes, coordinator for media-related instructional services, told the board that the district followed the state’s adoption timeline and the state Rubric/Core Questions; district review panels — including elementary curriculum staff, ESE and ESOL representatives, technology staff, teachers, parents and community appointees — examined print and digital materials, sampled student and teacher experiences and used the state rubric to select finalists.
For K–3 ELA intervention materials the top three from the district review were Amira Learning, Edmentum Exact Path Reading, and Lexia Core5; the superintendent’s recommendation is Lexia Core5 with Edmentum Exact Path as the alternate. For K–4 mathematics intervention materials the committee selected Discovery/Waggle, Edmentum Exact Path Mathematics and HMH Waggle Math; the superintendent’s recommendation is Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Waggle Math with Edmentum Exact Path Mathematics as the alternate.
Hughes said the district will post access credentials and publisher demos on the district homepage for a 20‑day public review period. A public hearing on the recommended titles will be held May 13 (no vote); the board will vote on May 27 and then a 30‑day objection and hearing-officer process will follow if needed; ordering is targeted so that materials can be available by the first day of the 2025–26 school year. The recommended materials are digital-first; the district said trainers from Lexia and HMH are already accessible to staff.
Board members asked for outcome data from current intervention programs (SIPS, Lexia in existing use, READ 180 in upper elementary grades) so the board can compare prior performance with the new recommended options; the curriculum team said they will provide program-effectiveness data for the board’s next meeting.
