The Senate Committee on Transportation and Culture and the Arts voted to pass House Concurrent Resolution 94, recommending that the governor issue a proclamation designating Hawaii as a Purple Heart State on Aug. 7, 2025.
The resolution, HCR 94, was sponsored for the committee’s consideration and the Department of Hawaii Veterans of Foreign Wars submitted written testimony in support. Committee leadership recommended the resolution be passed unamended.
Committee Chair Senator Lee called for the recommendation and the present committee members recorded aye votes; Vice Chair Inouye was excused. Senator Kanuha and Senator DeCourcey participated and voted aye. Committee staff recorded the recommendation as adopted.
No members of the public signed up to testify in person on HCR 94 during the public comment period; the Department of Hawaii Veterans of Foreign Wars and other individuals had submitted written support, according to the committee record. The resolution requests a gubernatorial proclamation; the governor’s action on the request is not captured in the committee record.
The committee adopted the recommendation to pass HCR 94 unamended and closed the item before moving on to confirmation hearings for gubernatorial nominees.
