The Fairfield‑Suisun Unified School District governing board recognized an 11th‑grade student and welcomed graduates of a parent leadership program during its meeting.
Michelle Villasenor Orozco, an 11th‑grader from San Diego High School, was presented as one of the district's students of the month for April 2025. Michelle told the board she moved to Fairfield from Obregón, Mexico after the COVID‑19 pandemic and initially struggled with attendance and motivation. She said her academic focus returned after transferring schools and that she is now on track to graduate in June as a junior — a year early — and hopes to pursue a career in the medical field. Michelle thanked the board, her family, friends and teachers for their support.
Holly Collins, coordinator of parent and family engagement, introduced graduates of the 2025 Parent Leadership Training Institute of Solano (PLTI), a 20‑week leadership course offered to Fairfield‑Suisun Unified families through a partnership with the Children's Network of Solano. Collins said the program is free to families, held at the Fairfield Suisun Adult School, and provides dinner, childcare and translation to ensure access. She said graduates strengthened advocacy skills, learned to influence public policy, and completed community projects ranging from grief support and senior companionship to increased inclusion and expanded access to music.
Collins named graduates who participated in the meeting lineup: Diana Ramirez, Guadalupe Aguayo, Glenda Morris, Sylvia Madrid, Lisa Waits and Maria Carmen Rodriguez. She also listed additional graduates who were not present: Rocio Ibarra, Tamika Serrano, Effie Nava, Lianne Vodouen and Jessica Avetia. Collins noted that several participants had spoken publicly for the first time at a prior board meeting and that they attended a Suisun City council meeting as part of their training.
The board offered congratulatory remarks and invited the honorees to enjoy the rest of the evening. The recognition items were presented during the meeting's ceremonial portion and did not require board action beyond acknowledgment.
