Children's Beach programming set for July–Sept: puppet shows, Magic Mark, Capoeira and Sunday concerts return

The Department of Culture and Tourism on the Parks & Recreation agenda outlined a themed weekly schedule of family programming at Children's Beach running from July through Sept. 13, with returning acts and new performers planned for the season.

Dina Weatherly, cultural affairs and special events coordinator, described the schedule as a series of “themed days” and said most programming runs from early July through Sept. 13. She named returning performer Liz’s Puppet Show on Saturdays at 11 a.m., Magic Mark on Mondays at 10 a.m., and Capoeira with Verdum on Saturdays at 9:30 a.m. Weatherly said the Sunday concert series will return, with eight or nine weeks booked from July into early September and one rain date.

“Dina has been working tirelessly, to to get a good schedule together,” said Chantal (participant), expressing support for the season’s line‑up. The commission did not take a formal vote on the schedule during the meeting; Weatherly said the programming was informational and that the department will return with end‑of‑season reporting if the schedule is well received.

Weatherly also said local bands had inquired about additional slots; she indicated that organizers can add dates based on community interest and availability. She noted coordination is ongoing with Nigel Goss and other local music groups for the Sunday series.

The programming aims to restore events curtailed during the pandemic and to increase free family activities on the town lawn and beach. Weatherly said event days will feature kid‑friendly activity stations, puppetry, music and dance, and she will report attendance and outcomes after the season ends.
