City officials announced on Jan. 6 that Fate received a $5,000 grant from the Annis Reed Fund of the Texas Main Street/Texas Downtown program to enhance the downtown breezeway between Fate Main and Old Town Road.

City staff credited Yvonne Lane with the project work and said the funds paid for four new ADA-compliant picnic tables and new garbage receptacles; staff also noted a sponsorship from Spiral X for a courtyard bench. The grant aims to improve connectivity among new downtown businesses and provide places for people to gather.

City staff said the facilities team installed the tables about two weeks before the meeting and that the amenities were already being used. The council and presenters briefly took photographs to mark the presentation.
