Multiple parks projects advancing; staff to present three bids together to council May 13

Parks staff briefed the commission on several capital projects April 17 and said they plan to bundle three bids for Council action on May 13.
Fitch Family Indoor Aquatic Center: Staff reported ongoing construction work in the natatorium and that the wellness pool basin had been formed. Staff said conduit and duct runs are in place and roof work largely complete; the project remains active and within contingency. Staff reported about $251,000 in contingency has been used from an original contingency pool of about $2.1 million (roughly 12%).
Shanker Plaza: Staff said planting and hydroseeding work will occur soon and that discussions with the contractor Henkel Construction about the ice ribbon remain ongoing. The city is seeking written proposals from Henkel describing options and cost; staff emphasized the city’s goal of receiving what it paid for and that no final decision on partial openings has been made.
Agility course: Contractor Caliber Concrete is installing underground drainage and preparing concrete pads; the equipment installer (Impella) is scheduled to install equipment in May if weather permits and staff expects substantial completion by June if schedules hold.
Daley Park splash pad and mini pitch: Staff said plans and specifications will go to the development review committee and staff intends to take the Daley Park plans and specifications to council May 13. Staff reported anticipated savings on several projects (including the mini pitch) that could be used to cover shortfalls on other projects.
Park maintenance facility expansion: Staff reported design alternates and growing cost estimates; staff plans to include a base bid and alternates in the May 13 council package so council can consider using savings from other projects to cover shortfalls in the maintenance facility budget.
Staff told commissioners they intend to take plans and specifications for the Ada Hayden trail project, the park maintenance facility expansion and the Daley Park splash pad to council on May 13 and have all three projects bid on the same schedule. The intent is to use savings from lower bids on some projects to offset shortfalls on others.
