Board proclaims April School Library Month and recognizes district librarians and community partner Para Los Niños

The board opened recognitions by proclaiming April 2025 as School Library Month in Highline Public Schools and invited several district librarians to share highlights of library programming across secondary and elementary schools.

Highlights presented: Secondary librarians reported collaborations, reading promotions, author visits, makerspace activities and redesigned research lessons. Examples included a tech‑outage lesson at Sylvester Middle School to teach print research, an author visit at Evergreen High School, makerspace challenges at Glacier Middle School and extended‑essay scaffolding work at Mount Rainier High School. Elementary librarians described curated collections that provide “mirrors, windows and sliding glass doors” for students and makerspace activities that support innovation and critical thinking.

Community partner recognition: The board also recognized Para Los Niños (Para Los Nunez in transcript) for two decades of work supporting children and families with academic and cultural programs. The organization’s executive director and program manager thanked the board, noted that they recently purchased their own building (funded by a loan), and described continued partnership with the district. The board invited Para Los Niños leaders to the dais for a photo and presentation.
