The commission opened the floor for nominations for chair. Commissioner Jeff Isles nominated Nathan Shimonik; Commissioner Jeff White seconded the nomination. Commissioners approved Shimonik by voice vote with no recorded opposition. After the vote Shimonik said, “It'll be a privilege to serve the citizens of Ames in this commission.”
The commission then opened nominations for vice chair. Shimonik nominated Dwayne Reeves. Commissioners approved Reeves by voice vote with no recorded opposition.
The elections were procedural and carried out by roll-call-style voice votes during the public meeting; commissioners did not record individual yes/no votes in the transcript. The commission moved on to its agenda after the officer elections.
