Jess Nunez of O'Hare Court raised a public-comment concern about traffic and dust on the dirt road along the Canal Bank near Austin (Ayton) Road. Nunez said drivers use the dirt route to avoid backups at the intersection and that the dust frequently drifts into nearby neighborhoods and onto people exercising along the canal bank.
"I counted five cars in the 60 seconds that it took me to get from that intersection to Brewer," Nunez said, describing a short video he recorded that showed repeated vehicle use of the bank. "...that dust comes into our neighborhoods."
City officials said the land west of the canal lies in county jurisdiction and encouraged reporting the problem to Imperial County, including the Imperial County Air Pollution Control District and the Imperial Irrigation District for drainage-bank ownership questions. Council members said they also see the issue regularly but noted the city lacks authority for property beyond the canal bank.
Ending: Councilmembers recommended the resident contact Imperial County agencies and the irrigation district; no formal city action was taken during the meeting.
