County promotes Work Zone Awareness Week, urges caution and 'Respect the Zone'

WASHINGTON COUNTY — Washington County highway staff asked the Public Works Committee to help promote National Work Zone Awareness Week, including an Orange Day and social-media outreach to encourage drivers to slow down and move over for roadside workers.
Scott Schmidt (Highway Department staff) told the committee the Wisconsin County Highway Association coordinates a national push and the county will place posters and encourage staff and partners to wear orange on the designated day. “This time of year, just a reminder to slow down and and be safe and put the phones and hours going through work zones,” Scott said, and added this year’s theme is summarized as “respect the zone. So we all get home.”
Staff described the outreach as low-cost safety promotion: posters at county buildings, social-media posts and staff photos to build public awareness. Committee members were asked to help share the message; no formal action was required.
