Madison County Schools principals highlight academic and extracurricular gains; district lists Purple Star schools

Superintendent Bugett read a list of schools that renewed or achieved Purple Star status, a recognition for schools that support military‑connected students. The list named Buckhorn High School, Buckhorn Middle School, Central School, Harvest Elementary School, Endeavor Elementary School, Hazel Green Elementary School, Hazel Green High School, Legacy Elementary School, Lynn Fannie Elementary School, Madison County Elementary School, Madison County High School, Madison County Virtual Academy, Meridianville Middle School, Moores Mill Intermediate School, New Hope High School, New Market Elementary School, Owens Crossroads Elementary School, Riverton Intermediate School, Spartan Ninth Grade School and Spartan High School.
Monrovia/Enrovia principal Treadwick reported enrollment and performance highlights for his school, saying the campus serves about 985 students and 92 staff and that state report card scores have risen in recent years. He told the board the school saw growth on state assessments and several extracurricular successes, including an 8‑1 football season and a top nationally ranked Hawks Racing team.
Legacy Elementary principal Catherine Rogers described an outdoor classroom program she called the state’s largest and said the partnership with the Alabama Wildlife Federation enabled a pilot Junior Scientist program; Legacy also received a $10,000 RC&D grant to buy work tables and garden materials.
Endeavor Elementary principal Dana Cooper described the school’s Green Power team, which builds battery‑powered racing cars. Cooper said Endeavor’s newest car is ranked third nationally and the school has recent first‑place finishes in regional competitions. Kelly Reisner, new principal at Monrovia Elementary, described family‑engagement events including an engineering day and a high participation history and literacy night.
Board members thanked principals and hosts for the school visits and noted the district will resume school tours next year with visits to five additional schools.
