The Sudden Valley Finance Committee recommended that the board allocate $7,611.21 from SURF for exterior painting of the Welcome Center and authorize the General Manager to execute an SVCA standard construction contract with CertaPro Painters.
Committee members discussed the three bids received; staff said the low bidder was a nationally branded firm (CertaPro) and that the bids were comparable (all bidders confirmed two coats of paint). Several members urged that future solicitations seek local Sudden Valley contractors and suggested steps such as a community e-blast, the SVCA “Views” publication, and a contractors’ information day to get more resident bidders. One committee member said she opposed awarding the recommendation without first giving local contractors an opportunity; the motion passed with the opposition noted in the committee record.
The committee voted to recommend the allocation and contract authorization; staff and committee members agreed to follow up with outreach and a local-contractor contact list so future small projects can be offered to community providers when appropriate.
The recommendation will be forwarded to the board. Committee members and staff discussed pragmatic constraints — weather and painters’ schedules — and suggested that for small projects SVCA should proactively notify local contractors and consider short delays when feasible to allow local bids.
