County reports most agencies ready for drug-box program; one agency needs DEA license to finish CSR go-live

Pittsylvania County staff reported progress toward the state's Controlled Substance Registration (CSR) go-live for the county's drug-box program, saying most agencies are live or ready and that a 30-day extension from Centra and SOVA allowed remaining agencies to finish enrollment.
At the meeting, a commission speaker said the state go-live was scheduled to begin two days earlier but hospitals granted an extension. "I am proud to say that most of our agencies are either have went live or basically ready. I think we've got 1 agency left in the county now, that doesn't have their DEA license," the speaker said.
Director Key and chiefs on the panel described nationwide drug shortages and supply-chain issues that complicated agencies' ability to stock boxes; Centra and SOVA agreed to extend supply under their DEA licenses while small agencies complete their registration and paperwork.
Commissioners said they expect county agencies to finish the remaining steps in the 30-day extension window. The commission noted that state EMS inspections remain ongoing and that two Firefighter I training classes are advancing on schedule.
No formal action was taken; the commission and association thanked hospital partners for the extension and said they will continue local follow-up to ensure full enrollment and compliance.
