City staff briefed the Sunbury City Parks & Recreation Committee on April 17 about a proposed disc-golf event organized by the Blackjack Disc Golf Club.
The event, called the Kinslow Marathon, is scheduled for July 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a rain date of Aug. 9, staff said. Entry is listed at $50 per player; organizers plan to donate 20 to 25 percent of proceeds to the Alzheimer’s Association and will use the remainder to cover event costs. Staff said event organizers expect about 72 participants and plan three rounds over a single day.
Staff told the committee the organizers requested no city electrical hookups, will handle their own clean-up and that emergency services and the services department have reviewed the application and found no red flags.
No formal city permit action was taken at the April 17 meeting. City staff said they will continue processing the event request and will notify the committee if any issues arise.
Ending: The committee did not vote on the event; staff reported the application had been reviewed by emergency services and city services with no objections noted.
