Town of Babylon planning board closes hearing on North Babylon medical office after groundwater questions

The Town of Babylon Planning Board closed the public hearing and reserved decision on an application by Khalid Enterprises Inc. to demolish an existing one-story building at Poplar Street and Deer Park Avenue in North Babylon and construct a two-story medical office with a 4,437-square-foot footprint.

The application, introduced by attorney Joseph Costantino, drew technical questions from planning staff about a proposed basement and concerns from neighbors about security and screening. The board voted to close the public hearing and hold the decision open while applicants and staff work with the Department of Environmental Control and the project engineer on groundwater and foundation issues.

Joseph Costantino, attorney for the applicant, said the property owner proposes a medical office building to be occupied by Long Island Comprehensive offering internal medicine, podiatry and cardiology. Costantino said the facility would not perform surgery and that a pharmacy on site would be limited to patients, not a public retail pharmacy.
