Livingston County board approves FY2024 audit with clean opinion

Laurie Pope, a partner at Mac and Associates, told the Livingston County Board on April 17 that her firm issued an unmodified, or clean, opinion on the county's financial statements for the fiscal year ending Nov. 30, 2024, and that the single audit required because the county spent more than $750,000 in federal awards also received a clean opinion.

Pope summarized key totals from the government-wide statements, saying total assets were about $128.7 million and that the county ended the year with a net position of about $117.0 million. "We issued an unmodified, which is a clean opinion on the financial statements for the fiscal year ending 11/30/2024," Pope said. She added there were no audit findings for either the financial-statement audit or the single-audit work.

The clean opinion means the auditor found the county's financial statements fairly presented the county's financial position under generally accepted accounting principles. Pope also walked the board through selected fund-balance and revenue figures and noted the county's total revenues for the year increased about $2 million from the prior year.

After the presentation, the board moved to approve the audit. The motion to approve the FY2024 audit was made by Marty Fannin and seconded by Gina Manker. The board adopted the audit by roll call.

The approval follows a prior, fuller briefing to the finance committee, which Pope said covered more detailed testing and planning work. Board members thanked the finance department and the auditor for the work that led to the clean opinions.

The county will file the audited financial statements and single-audit reports as required; no additional conditions, findings, or follow-up actions were recorded during the meeting.
