She told the council the city received a Community Foundation grant that will help purchase the trees and expand the municipal tree canopy.
The proclamation referenced Tree City USA recognition and listed common benefits of urban trees noted by staff, including erosion control, energy savings and property value enhancement.
The proclamation is ceremonial and does not require council action beyond adoption on the night's agenda; staff encouraged volunteers to participate in planting teams scheduled for April 25.
The city listed the Iowa DNR and the Chamber as partners on the project and said grant funding will cover tree purchases.
