The Planning Commission recommended approval April 16 of a rezoning that will allow Fifth Third Bank to build a one‑story, approximately 1,900‑square‑foot branch with a drive‑through at 5290 Campbellton‑Fairburn Road.
Applicant representatives told the commission the property’s current MIX zoning contains conditions that prevent the proposed development and that rezoning to C‑1 better aligns with the parcel’s future‑land‑use designation of Community Live Work. Ashley Vanderland, representing Fifth Third Bank, said the bank intends to include pedestrian connections to the existing sidewalk and interior amenities such as meeting space and wifi for customers.
The site sits amid existing commercial uses along Campbellton‑Fairburn Road; staff found the proposal consistent with the future land‑use map and with overlay requirements and recommended approval without variances. Commissioners approved staff findings and then voted to rezone the parcel to C‑1. The motion carried on a voice vote.
