House committee backs bill to move State Board of Dentistry office to Orleans Parish

Representative Newell introduced House Bill 340 to change the legal domicile of the Louisiana State Board of Dentistry to Orleans Parish, saying the move would allow the board to locate closer to the LSU School of Dentistry and reduce the need to rent meeting space.
The bill would let the board select an office location in Orleans Parish and carry a fiscal note of $1,200, the sponsor said. He told the committee that money would not come from the state general fund but from board fees.
Annette Gerardi, president of the Louisiana Dental Association, told the committee the association supports relocating the board because most board members, students and staff live in New Orleans and it would be more convenient for testing and meetings.
Representative Hughes moved to report the bill favorably. The committee heard no objections and the bill was reported favorably by voice vote.
The bill now moves to the next steps in the legislative process with no recorded roll-call vote in committee.
