Board approves summer feeding plan and awards chicken-processing contract to Gold Creek

Burke County’s School Nutrition Program presented a summer feeding plan and a procurement recommendation at the March 18 meeting; the board voted to approve both items.
Miss Laracy, the district food-service representative, asked the board to approve a summer feeding program operating in two blocks: June 10–12 and resuming June 24 through July 24, with weekly meal boxes and Tuesday/Thursday bus distribution. The program plans to deliver 5 breakfasts and 5 lunches in weekly boxes and to run roughly 12 bus routes per day. Staff said they will publish flyers, post dates on the district website and use newspaper notices to communicate schedules and any service-week adjustments.
On procurement, staff reported a three-vendor evaluation for chicken processing using criteria of price, taste, appearance and references. Gold Creek scored highest and the board approved the award to Gold Creek.
The board recorded both motions as carried. Staff will finalize the vendor contract and publicize the summer feeding schedule to families and community outlets.
