The staff member leading the briefing said the bill’s intent section directs the General Assembly to enact updates in 2026 to CTE governance and funding “to create a coordinated and coherent statewide strategy for career and technical education that is responsive to students and the state's workforce needs.” The amendment would revise the charge of the Commission on the Future of Public Education and add a school-district boundary subcommittee to propose no more than three boundary plans for consideration.
The subcommittee created by the amendment would be composed of nine nonvoting members (five nonlegislative appointees and four legislative members), the briefing said; the nonlegislative appointees must be retired superintendents, retired school business officials or former school board members and are selected by the speaker, the committee on committees and the governor.
