Christian County certifies April 8 municipal election results; low turnout recorded, records destruction noted

County Clerk Miss Brownfield told the Christian County Commission on April 17 that the April 8 municipal election had a turnout of 8.46% and that she certified the results the previous Friday.
"Out of 69,653 registered voters, we only had 5,894," Miss Brownfield said during her brief report. The clerk said she reviewed turnout numbers going back roughly 20 years and described the April municipal election as typically low turnout.
Commissioners discussed the low participation, with Presiding Commissioner Lynn Morris calling the turnout "very embarrassing" and urging broader voter engagement for local races and taxing issues that affect everyday services. The commission then took a motion to accept the election results and recorded the vote in favor: "All in favor, say aye. Aye." The motion passed.
Miss Brownfield also reported that she had destroyed records in accordance with the county retention schedule and Missouri statutes. She said she had sent the list of destroyed records to the commission for the record but did not provide a printed copy at the meeting. The commission noted the record destruction and accepted it without a separate motion.
No contested outcomes, recounts or changes to reported results were announced at the meeting.
