EDC announces first BEAR award to HIS Ministries, considers website, social media and a $24,850 cost proposal

The Santa Fe Economic Development Corporation reported the first award from its BEAR program and discussed several upcoming agenda items including improvements to the EDC website, the possibility of an EDC social media page and a cost proposal that aligns with this year’s budget for a program referred to in the packet as the veil coach.
Staff said the BEAR (Business Enhancement Assistance and Revitalization) review committee received its first application and approved $50,000 for HIS Ministries to bring the electrical system in one building up to code. Staff said HIS Ministries will receive reimbursement after the project is finished and the building receives a certificate of occupancy.
The presenter described the $50,000 award as partial support for a larger rehabilitation project and said the funds would “push them down the road” toward completion. The review committee awarded the reimbursement after reviewing plans and cost information, and staff said the committee found the application met program requirements.
On other agenda items, staff said Vice President Schoettner raised concerns about the EDC website and requested a discussion at the regular board meeting; directors were asked to review the site and bring recommendations. Staff also said the board will consider whether to create an EDC Facebook page and asked directors to research other EDC social media uses before the next meeting.
Separately, staff reported it had negotiated a lower cost proposal for a veil coach (vendor name in packet: Mr. Farmer) down to $24,850, which staff said aligns with the current budget and eliminates the need for a budget amendment this fiscal year. Staff said the item will return for formal consideration at a regular meeting.
Staff asked directors to flag any other items for the regular agenda, and the board confirmed the BEAR program and active projects will receive regular updates under a new "active projects" reports section on future agendas.
The BEAR award, website review, social media discussion and the lowered vendor proposal were presented as informational items and will return to the board for action where appropriate.
