Sheriff's office secures county endorsement for Criminal Justice Commission grant

Lieutenant Aaron Boyce of the Crook County Sheriff’s Office asked the board for a letter of support for the county’s Justice Reinvestment Initiative (JRI) grant application to the Criminal Justice Commission of Oregon. Boyce said the biennial grant helps fund a mental-health technician position in the jail and parole/probation, a half-time district attorney position focused on downward-departure cases, and a half-time parole and probation officer.
Boyce said the sheriff’s office has administered the grant for roughly eight years and that the initial grant application for the 2025–27 biennium was due later in the week; he requested the board append a letter of support to the application. Commissioners expressed support for the program and its role in funding treatment and supervision resources. The board voted to approve the letter of support.
