Hillsborough names three students as 2025 Sunshine State Scholars

Hillsborough County School Board recognized three juniors selected by the Florida Department of Education as 2025 Sunshine State Scholars and presented district medals and certificates.
Jessica Vaughn, chair of the Hillsborough County School Board, opened the April 15 recognition meeting by introducing honors for the district’s highest-achieving mathematics and science juniors.
The board recognized three students selected by the Florida Department of Education as 2025 Sunshine State Scholars. Doctor Clayton Nylund, supervisor of 9 through 12 science, and Doctor Gail Stewart, supervisor of 9 through 12 math, presented the honorees and the district awards.
“Each year, the Florida Department of Education seeks out the highest achieving mathematics and science students in grade 11 from across Florida,” Doctor Nylund said during the presentation.
This year’s Hillsborough County Sunshine State Scholars are Casey Ayers of Newsome High School, Louis Rondon of Leto High School and Rohan Morgan of Plant High School. Each student will receive a district medal and certificate in recognition of the state-level honor.
The recognition was part of a program of student and community acknowledgements; the board noted no business items would be approved at the meeting.
The board recessed briefly for photographs of the scholars following the presentation.
